Fun for the Family
Spring is often the first time of the year when the weather is just warm enough to go out on a family day and run around in the fields or by the beach on a misty morning. This year, if you are looking for a little bit more than just the park next door or the neighbourhood’s playground, why not see what the Edinburgh International Science festival has to offer? This year, there are almost 100 family- specific festival events, enough to keep both adults and children entertained, challenged and informed. The festival has two-week series of daily events for all ages and between 9.30am to 4.30pm to make sure everyone is entertained.
Start your journey through science by heading to the City Art Centre. From the 31 March - 14 April seven floors are dedicated to fun for the family. View the World of Bubbles, play with Rampaging Chariots or explore the Jungle Safari- or why not explore the inner eye, try unwrapping a mummy that has just been discovered or cook up pongy potions and stinky smells?
At the Scottish Storytelling Centre you can indulge the whole family in tall tales, science stories and fabulous yarns. Celebrate the Science of Ancient Greece with Eureka! Ancient Greece and Its Brilliant Scientific Discoveries or explore the world from the perspective of an ant or a giant star in How Big Can We Go, How Small Can We Go?
If you fancy ten days of cooking, tasting and scientific discover, head down to Edinburgh's famed Botanic Gardens to explore where milk comes from in Cow to Carton, take a Chocolate Tree Workshop or enter any budding cooks into the Junior Chef Challenge.
Finally, a walk around Edinburgh's scenic St Andrews Square gives the opportunity to indulge in the beauty of Invisible Worlds, with the smallest bacteria to the largest stars on display.
