Samba Sene & Diwan - Africa Calling

VENUE : Leith Links

FESTIVAL: Edinburgh Mela Festival

Lead by charismatic singer Samba Sene, Diwan's music is an infectious fusion of mbalax and Afrobeat grooves, infused with ska, funk and Sanagalese soul. Original songs with impassioned vocals, guitar licks and irresistible dance grooves. Add sassy horns and a pinch of ska for world music with a Senegalese soul.

Musician Samba Sene was born in Senegal but moved to Scotland ten years ago. A charismatic singer, his style is strongly influenced by a wide range of music, from traditional to funk, rock and ska. His influences include former mentor Baaba Maal, Bob Marley, Van Morrison, Paul Simon, Alpha Blondy and Aswad. The songs cover a range of subjects from homelessness, equal rights to outright celebration. Uplifting and upbeat. Diwan is a diverse international collection of musicians, who share a global outlook and love of West African rhythms.
