RICKMAN RETURNS for HOMECOMING

RICKMAN RETURNS HOME

International film star Alan Rickman returns to the Edinburgh Festivals where he first appeared 33 years ago to toast to Robbie Burns and support the Homecoming.

The BAFTA award winning star of ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves’, and ‘Love Actually’’, has a long-standing relationship with the Edinburgh Festivals. Rickman first appeared at the Edinburgh International Festival in 1976 with a double bill of ‘The Devil Is An Ass’ and ‘Measure For Measure’. Over the years he has returned with productions of ‘Brothers Karamazov’ and ‘Tango At The End Of Winter’, and in 1986 he directed Ruby Wax in her show ‘Live Wax’. In 2006 he appeared at the Edinburgh International Film Festival with film ‘Snow Cake’, also starring Sigourney Weaver.

“I’ve had so many extraordinary experiences at the Festivals. I always feel that when I come to Edinburgh in many ways I am coming home,” said Rickman.

While Alan is in town, he is seeing festival shows including Simon Amstell at the Bongo Club, Muriel Spark’s ‘The Girls of Slender Means’ at Assembly, and performances of ‘Faust’ and ‘Gelabert Azzopardi’ at the Edinburgh International Festival.

During Homecoming year, the Edinburgh Festivals will see many famous Festival names return to their artistic home to join Scotland’s national celebrations. Homecoming themes, special events and performances will also run through the festivals’ programmes, from the Edinburgh International Festival to the Edinburgh Mela, The Edinburgh International Book Festival to the Tattoo, and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to the Edinburgh Art Festival.

Alan Rickman is one of many stars supporting the Edinburgh Festivals.
