6-Oscar Win for Edinburgh Film Festival Premiere

Kathryn Bigelow's war epic wins Oscar glory

6 Oscar win for Edinburgh Film Festival Premiere

The Hurt Locker

Edinburgh International Film Festival has been known through the years as a hotbed of activity for revealing great upcoming films and talent.

Now, EIFF are rightly proud again as Kathryn Bigelow’s wartime masterpiece The Hurt Locker- which had its UK premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival- trumpeted its way to a 6 Oscar victory at the 2010 Academy Awards.

The wartime epic was unveiled in the UK for the first time at the 2009 Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Exposing talent is at the core of the festival, which has been at the forefront of cinematic evolution since 1947. Cinematic greats like Spielberg's ET: The Extraterrestrial , The Edge of Love and fellow Oscar winner Tsotsi have all graced the halls of the EIFF, as have more popular films such as Knocked Up. Certainly, whatever genre takes your fancy, the Edinburgh International Film Festival is more than certain to have something for you.

So, to Bigelow and the team we say a hearty congratulations, and to film buffs around the world, we say: ‘Where will you be this June?’
