The world famous military spectacular will run from the 2-24th August 2013. The Tattoo highlights Scotland's reputation as a land of outstanding beauty as we celebrate the Year of Natural Scotland.
The programme will include all the famed music, action and colour with a soupcon of the unexpected, featuring performers from all points of the compass including Europe, the Far East as well as Central and South America. With the Massed Pipes and Drums, Massed Military Bands, Display Teams, Dancers and the haunting lament of the Lone Piper set against the magnificent backcloth of Edinburgh Castle.

¡Bocón!, a fable, tells the story of Miguel who flees a repressive military regime in Central America for Los Angeles. An irrepressible big mouth or bocón, Miguel loses his voice when his parents are taken and begins a metaphorical journey. Along the way he meets up with La Llorona, the legendary Weeping Woman of Mexican and Central American mythology, finds his voice and the courage to cross the border to a new life. Miguel’s story is relevant to immigrant children from all parts of the world … and any child learning the many meanings of finding one’s own voice.

Performing traditional and contemporary music celebrating the ever-narrowing divide between East and West, Zor are Edinburgh-based Hungarian gypsy fiddle virtuoso Jani Lang (Fianna, Jani Lang Band), from England and also based in Edinburgh, the genre defying flute and whistle powerhouse Tom Oakes (Auvo Quartet, Ross Couper and Tom Oakes) with Budapest-based master guitarist Kornel Varga (Fianna, Fabula Rasa) completing the trio. Jonny, a rebel, falls in love with Toffee during a routine air-raid drill, but their love is forbidden by parents and Principal Strict. When Toffee breaks it off Jonny commits suicide by hurling himself into a nearby nuclear power plant. Weeks later Jonny reappears from the grave to finish high school and take Toffee to prom. Can a teenager in mourning find a way to be with her undead love of her life?

Over the course of the evening, the audience experiences miraculous events, intangible and inexplicable. Your Place or Mind looks closely at coincidence and asks, what if coincidence is the universe’s way of alerting us to opportunity? ESP, numerology, remote viewing and hypnosis come together to indicate that maybe there is more to chance than chance alone.
